I’ve been working in digital since 2008… before it was cool and before it was a thing. This stretches from two-person local newsrooms to some of the biggest international players including Al Jazeera, BBC and Unicef. Some of the things I do include:

  • Leading and managing teams through empowerment and empathy

  • Digital strategy, growth and development (analytics/data, AI, all things social, audience, editorial and content)

  • Presenting and facilitating

  • Training and consulting

  • Judging/award panels

  • Mentoring

This work took me to 18 countries in 2018 alone, and I’ve worked/lived in seven, including working with:

  • Al Jazeera Media Network (Al Jazeera English and Al Jazeera Turk) in Qatar and Turkey

  • BBC News, BBC World Service and BBC Media Action (UK and remote)

  • Canva (Australia)

  • Changer Studios (YouTube channel and creator accelerator) (Australia)

  • Constructive Institute (Denmark, Norway, Sweden)

  • CrowdTangle (a now sadly defunct Facebook/META product).

  • Facebook (India)

  • Freedom House

  • Centre for Excellence in Journalism along with Northwestern University, (Pakistan)

  • International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) (Sri Lanka)

  • Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF) (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine)

  • Media24 (South Africa)

  • M4Asia on behalf of the French Foreign Ministry (Indonesia)

  • US State Department (Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova and Turkey)

Fun fact:

One day BBC publicity asked if they could take some press pics of me. Sure I said. Little did I know that it was to become the face of an internal BBC campaign, displayed in every BBC office worldwide. I’ve been a poster child for former design leader Idean too, and appeared in several ads for the Doha Film Institute, including this beauty (these were borrowed lenses, which were so thick, I couldn’t see through them).
